National Drivers Certification
TRAA established the only National Standards for tow truck operators and from these standards developed the National Driver Certification Program. Working from a grant from the Federal Highway Administration, the certification process was up and running in 1995.

Development of Law Enforcement Dispatch Video and Vehicle ID Cards
TRAA produced video instruction that helps law enforcement improve communication with towers.

Annual Legislative and Leadership Conference
TRAA hosts an annual event that discusses topics relating to the towing industry. Previous year's discussions include abandoned vehicles, insurance dumping, industry consolidation, hours of service, mandatory certification, invoicing strategies, and salvage challenges.

Testimony Before Courts and Commissions Relating to Towing
From the the filing of Amicus Briefs at the Supreme Court all the way to the DOT’s hours of service hearings—TRAA is present to give testimony or help explain towing to those unfamiliar with the industry. Wherever there is a need, TRAA will be there representing you.

Communication Between States
A critical aspect of communication is helping others learn what is being done to correct problems in other areas of the country. TRAA is a clearing house of such information for the states.

Scholarship Program
The Women of the Towing and Recovery Association of American manages a scholarship program which disperses money for education every year.

Education Foundation
Through the Education Foundation many projects are produced for the benefit of towers worldwide utilizing our tax exempt 501(c)3 status. This foundation is expanding all the time to help keep up with changing needs of our industry.

WHAT CAN WE DO FOR YOU?

Each year we hold a National Legislative And Leadership Conference which is attended by industry leaders including the state association presidents and executive directors and all manner of related agengies and industries. Each year the conference focuses on a central theme which affects industry businesses and draws speakers from within and without to address the issues. 2007 will mark the 10th year that TRAA has held this conference and it is hailed as the premiere gathering of towing representatives across the country.

TRAA’s legislative committee and counsel have taken on the issue of private property impound towing (PPI) in response to the Cox/Moran bill. We have communicated with the Secretary of Transportation’s appointee for a Federal PPI study and given him comprehensive information about the industry and recommended verbiage to satisfactorily address this issue.

TRAA has written a “Municipal Towing Guide” which is comprehensive and available for any state or municipality wishing to use it as a model.

" Some of the most valuable information in the towing industry is shared at the TRAA Board Meetings and the Legislative and Leadership Conference, and not just in the meetings.

The business relationships and friendships that result from these gathernings are true member benefits."
